VO Residents Play Bingo and Learn About New Vintage Home Health Services

Who doesn't enjoy playing Bingo every once in a while? While most people play at a local hall or church, even, Vintage Oaks residents played in the Clubhouse. Jenny Hugger, Executive Director of Vintage Home Health, came over and called a few games and talked about the new services that Vintage Home Health is now offering. It was very informative and a lot of fun, too! One of the services that many of the Vintage Oaks residents really liked was the new Weather Alert System that will alert the residents of severe thunderstorms, tornado watches and tornado warnings. This was particularly important to them because they will be alerted by a telephone call and they don't have to rely on hearing the tornado whistles blowing. Most of them are hard of hearing so it is very difficult to hear those sirens. The service is very reasonable and it gives the Vintage Oaks residents a peace of mind. Pampering With Manicures at Vintage Gardens South

Friday is a day of pampering for the ladies at Vintage Gardens South. They enjoy getting connected while having a manicure in the morning and having their hair done in the afternoon. The manicurist, Director of Recreation, Margie Shane likes the socialization among all the women in the beauty shop as well as the one on one time she gets to spend with each resident. Everyone has a wonderful time and leaves the shop feeling great!

Beautiful New Bus Thrills Vintage Gardens North Residents

This month Vintage Gardens North residents were overjoyed when Joe Freudenthal brought our brand-new 15 passenger bus to Vintage Gardens for them to try out. Residents in wheelchairs were lifted up into the bus by a powered chair-lift, which also assisted those residents with difficulty negotiating stairs who struggled to enter the front of the bus. Everyone was able to get into the bus with ease and marvelled at the very large windows enabling them to all have spectacular views outside! Our new bus has all the "bells and whistles" and our residents kept thanking Joe for such a wonderful blessing! Of course, blessing our residents is what Vintage Gardens is all about, so Joe was excited to see them so happy! We all went on a maiden voyage that was a delight for all aboard! This beautiful bus will be used for all of the residents of our Vintage Senior Living Campus, including Vintage Gardens Assisted Living South and the Villas at Vintage Oaks.

Ladies Tea at Vintage Gardens Assisted Living South

Yesterday twenty six of our residents spent an elegant afternoon enjoying a " Ladies Tea' held each year in honor of Mother's Day. The theme for the tea was " Welcome Spring " which dictated the elaborate spring centerpieces and decorations around the room. With low music playing in the background, the ladies all wore colorful spring hats and got connected while sipping five differerent teas accompanied by scones, finger sandwiches, muffins, cookies and truffles. This fourth annual event was especially enjoyed by our many new residents who have recently joined our Vintage Gardens South family.

Vintage Oaks Residents Enjoy Artful Living

To look at the Vintage Oaks neighborhood, you see beautiful homes and well groomed lawns. A picture perfect neighborhood. When I look at Vintage Oaks, I see the same but in more detail. I see fantastic people who inhabit the villas who are not only wonderful personalities, but very talented people. We have painters, knitters, crotcheters, quilters and needleworkers. Talent bursting out of the seams! I have been so impressed with all of their talents, that I have wanted to show it off, for some time, now. Last Saturday, we had the first Vintage Oaks Art/Handwork Show and it was a huge success. The ladies set up their areas with many pieces from their collections to show off their talent. We had over 50 guests come and enjoy the art and partake in some wonderful, homemade cookies and beverages. It was exciting to see others enjoy the talents of the Vintage Oaks residents, as I have for the last few years. If you didn't get to come, enjoy the pictures and plan on coming next year! Walking for the Health of it

Vintage Gardens South " Strong Life" director, Ida Caw likes keeping residents engaged and working toward a goal. For the month of May residents who either participate in the many exercise classes held throughout the week, or simply walk the corridors of the building or areas outside are given tickets after they have completed the activity. The tickets can then be turned into "Vintage Bucks" that can be used for purchases at our annual yard sale to be held June 8th. Everyone has been having alot of fun with this while getting connected, healthier, and stronger.

Vintage Gardens Hosts Mother's Day Tea and Fashion Show

Last Saturday afternoon, in celebration of Mother's Day, Vintage Gardens North Ladies hosted their annual Spring Tea and Fashion Show. They each invited guests to enjoy the variety of teas and delectable petit fours, cheese pinwheels, wedding mints and cookies. The tables were adorned with lavender linen tablecloths, hurricane candle centerpieces, and lovely china tea service sets. All the ladies looked beautiful in their colorful dresses and jackets. With tulle and roses cascading down the staircase and creating a gorgeous archway for the models to make a grand entrance, the residents and their guests awaited the fashion show with great anticipation. Our staff's daughters and granddaughters, ranging in age from 17 months to 9 years, floated down the stairs and pranced and twirled before the delighted audience. They were adorable! Each child modeled 4 outfits, so it was quite a production. The residents loved the show and have been talking about it all week!

Darlene Campbell Walking The Campus

Vintage Gardens South resident Darlene Campbell likes to keep moving. On almost every day you will find her walking the Vintage Senior Living campus taking in the beautiful grounds. Since moving in almost three years ago Darlene has benefited greatly by the wide open spaces to walk in and her participation in the "Strong Life" program. She never misses any of the daily exercise classes or recreation activities which she credits for keeping her stronger and healthier and connected.

Vintage Oaks Art/Handwork Show To Be Held May 5

Have you ever been some place and it seems that everyone around you is talented in some way and because of it, you feel a little "untalented?" Vintage Oaks has been blessed with some of these talented people and we would like to show those talents off by having a show for all of them to display their many talents. We have painters, knitters, quilters and seamstresses, needlework art, crocheters and china painters. Whatever their talent is, we want you to see their beautiful works. Please join us on Saturday, April 5, 10am-2pm, in the Vintage Oaks Clubhouse and take a look at the talent we have in our neighborhood. If you want to make someone feel good, grab a friend and come make a short appearance at the show. You won't regret it! We'll also have some some cookies and refreshments for all. Vintage Oaks Resident Finds That Age Is Just a Number

This week, many of the Vintage Oaks residents had a birthday luncheon for one of our dear ladies, Mary Halverson. Mary celebrated her 93rd birthday, but to be around her, you would never guess she's close to that age. According to Mary, age is what you make it and to her, it's just a number. It was so nice being able to share her day with her. She kindly told everyone that she never had a sister so she considers all of the ladies in the Vintage Oaks neighborhood, her sisters. We were sure honored to receive the title of "sister" from such a wonderful lady. Mary's two daughters, Sonja Frey and Judy Frye, were there to celebrate with us, which made it super special for Mary. We celebrated with chicken salad sandwiches, cole slaw, macaroni salad, chips and of course, some delicious ice cream cake and two specialty cakes. Nobody went away hungry, for sure! We were so blessed to have this time together and share with each other a great milestone for anyone. Blessings for many more years of life and independent living, Mary! Have a wonderful weekend!!

Vintage Gardens South Residents Hold Easter Egg Race

Vintage Gardens South residents recently got connected during our first annual Easter Egg Race. Standing around a long table that was decoratred to look like a race track, including a race strip dowm the middle, each resident was asked to roll five diffrent decorated easter eggs down the middle earning points for how long each egg rolled. Everyone had so much fun watching others finesse and push the eggs toward the finish line. Prizes were awarded for first through fourth place.

Shopping, Eating, and Having Fun at Cracker Barrel

Vintage Gardens Assisted Living North residents love to shop and eat! It's a winning combination that always results in everyone having fun! Recently, our residents experienced all of the above when they went on an outing to Cracker Barrel for lunch. Of course, while they are waiting to be seated and after lunch, they had a great time browsing through the country store. The store has certainly grown in inventory over the years and offers a wonderful selection of merchandise. The residents enjoyed the store, the delicious food, and getting better acquainted with each other. They came home with happy, satisfied, smiles on their faces!

Kathleen Whittaker "Getting Connected" at Vintage Gardens South

Since moving in a month ago, Vintage Gardens South resident Kathleen Whittaker has been doing alot of "connecting " with the other residents, recreation activities, and exercise programs offered through our Strong Life Program. What she really likes is that she was able to bring some of her nice furniture from her house in Kansas to help create a beautiful new home here. She also thinks it's great that when she is hungry for a snack she goes up to the counter in the kitchen, she says " it's like a restaurant, I can get whatever I want!!"

Lucille Blanar Plays Some "Real Hot Jazz"!!

Lucille Blanar has been a resident of Vintage Gardens North for nine years and has been a blessing to us in many ways. One of the special ways she continues to bless our residents and staff is through the beautiful piano she purchased for our building and then performing for us regularly. She is an accomplished pianist, having played for most of her life. Lucille loves playing and is often requested to play, by the residents, after lunch or dinner. She says playing the piano is therapeutic for her, and I believe it is for the residents, as well! Thank you Lucille!

Vintage Oaks Residents Reminisce at the Antique Store

Everyone finds pleasure in something and the pleasure this week for a few of the Vintage Oaks residents was looking through some antiques at Kat & Co. antique store. It was so fun to hear stories about their childhoods and memories that the different items we saw on our visit to the store, brought back to them. They even took time to show me (the youngin') how different pieces of furniture, dishes and even beauty accessories played important rolls in their daily lives. I learned so much from each one of them from the experiences they have had in their lives. This shopping trip was a lot of fun and a few of us even found some treasures that we couldn't go without. If you haven't been to Kat & Co. antique store, take an hour and check it out. You will have a great time, just like we did. Have a great weekend!
